Mechanical Project Engineer (Contract)

£30 - £40 per hour

gap technical are proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Project Engineer to work at their facility based near Widnes

Performance Objectives

  • Experience of consistently delivering projects safely, on time and in full to budget.
  • Ability to work collaboratively at site level in a capacity of adding value to decision-making processes
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and develop positive relationships with local authorities and governing bodies
  • Responsible for overseeing engineering multi-disciplines to include M&E and civils works.

Project #1 -

Phase 1 - Boiler supply

  • Over-see the build of the on-order boiler to ensure adherence to construction design code, technical specification and delivery within agreed lead time.

Phase 2 - Boiler house design

  • Work with Engineering Manager to generate cost proposal to include at least 2 off quotations for new boiler house facility to include;
  • Civil survey of proposed foot print (Structural loading, underground services)
  • Boiler house design - equipment and personal access/egress
  • Building layout for boiler, ancillaries & maintenance for contained assets
  • Boiler ancillaries requirements (Hot well, blow down vessel, water treatment plant, boiler chemical dosing, steam manifold, condensation removal etc).
  • Enforcing and local authority approvals, EA for stack emission registration / approval and local council for any planning permission requirements.
  • Gas supply approval from existing metering point
  • New gas main from Meter point to POU to include new pressure booster unit
  • Connection to on-site water supply (greater than steam consumption)
  • Connection to nearest foul drain (excavation require and loadings)
  • Electrical connection - supply/ assessment
  • Connection to existing site steam header with adequate condensate removal

Phase 3 - Construct build and installation

  • Oversee all building and construction stages to include all M&E, civil and specialist disciplines to include;
  • Generation of MS Project delivery plan with timely (weekly) feedback to management team of progress/threats
  • Ensure all installation works are undertaken to the relevant design code and standards
  • Day to day contractor management to include vetting of SSOW/RAMS and issuing of Permits to Work.
  • Undertake frequent audits to ensure a continuous safety culture.
  • Coordinate site services break in's and tie in's.
  • Coordinate all project records and filing

Project #2 -

Phase 1 - SX3 Process / MECH / CIVILS Design Completion

  • Provide M&E and Civil Eng support through design phase.
  • Coordinate communication of steelwork and structural design with external resource
  • Oversee engineering consumables tender process / procurement and delivery to site
  • Engage local authority for necessary approvals, and local council for any planning permission requirements.

Phase 2 - Construct build and installation

  • Coordinate project mobilisation works
  • Move Equalisation Tank (ST36)
  • Provide new structural supports for Cooling Tower 2
  • Re-route existing ST21/22 piping
  • Re-route existing electrical supply cable to the lab
  • Modify existing drains including authorised effluent release point
  • Oversee all building and construction stages to include all M&E, civil and specialist disciplines to include;
  • Generation of MS Project delivery plan with timely (weekly) feedback to management team of progress/threats
  • Ensure all installation works are undertaken to the relevant design code and standards
  • Day to day contractor management to include vetting of SSOW/RAMS and issuing of Permits to Work.
  • Undertake frequent audits to ensure a continuous safety culture.

Person Specification

  • Ability to manage engineering structural work, building and construction activities on-site, ensure that work is carried in accordance with design and local authority regulations, in an safe and efficient manner, to programme requirements within approved budgets.
  • Liaise with, and co-ordinate, undertakings of all engineering contractors, driving engineering best practice
  • Ideally from an engineering background with the capability to interpret engineering design drawings and general arrangement layout
  • Must be familiar with the requirements of running a project under CDM regulations
  • Would appreciate the various stages of project development from FEED to Commissioning
