gap technical are proud to be representing an industry leading food manufacturing business in their search for Senior Maintenance Engineers. Our client has had recent and significant investment. They are looking for highly skilled Senior Maintenance Engineers to join their team.

Performance Objectives

  • To provide a first line multiskilled engineering service to production plant and equipment which includes fault diagnosis, rectification, repair, maintenance, installation, and improvement in order that they may function safely and efficiently.
  • To provide technical leadership and co-ordination to the shift engineering team in the areas of Health and Safety, Food Safety and Engineering Standards.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Work with the Factory Engineering Lead, the Engineering Manager and individuals in the engineering team to deliver the efficient, safe and cost-effective operation of all business units, ensuring that handovers/communication between engineering and operations are an effective 2 way process.
  • Ensure that all work activities carried out comply with Health & Safety at Work Act, factory safety and quality policies and internal procedures and policies. Where issues are identified, proactively work with engineering and safety teams to ensure safe systems of work, risk assessments and SOPs are created, documented, trained out and complied with.
  • Co-ordinate on shift, the engineers across both process and packing areas, working with the individuals in those roles to ensure that engineering activities on shift are carried out in a safe and timely manner to good engineering standards.
  • Lead and/or partake in risk assessments and problem solving in conjunction with the engineering team where breakdowns or significant engineering activities take place in their shift period.
  • Use the company CMMS system for tracking of planned reactive and breakdown activities and enforce its use on shift, to ensure that all necessary records are kept and available when required.
  • Where required, assist in the control of contractors, carrying out inductions, issuing permits and providing supervision and control within the workplace to ensure that Company procedures and policies are complied with at all times.
  • Ensure that all process and packing and site utility equipment operates at optimum efficiency by providing the necessary continuous mechanical / electrical engineering support, reacting to differing situations and changes in priorities, carrying out maintenance, repair or modifications / improvements works in priority and timely manner.
  • Ensure that downtime to designated plant is minimised by rapidly diagnosing and rectifying faults, where necessary executing temporary repairs. Where operational issues are identified, feedback on those issues to production teams with recommendations to reduce/remove the risk or impact.
  • Provide technical support to shift engineers and assist the Factory Engineering Lead in training initiatives. Mentor and develop other engineers and apprentices, to ensure effective training and development.
  • Support the safe and effective delivery of capital projects, providing input from design through to handover, working with/as part of project teams to ensure that effective training, commissioning and operational handover take place. Assist directly in the installation and commissioning of new installations.

Person Specification

  • The role requires a multiskilled engineering apprenticeship with relevant industrial experience.
  • Ideally with 5 years minimum experience in the food industry highly desirable
  • Good variety of technical experience across processes and site services / utilities.
  • A well balance personality and good communicator with the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, working without instruction on first line callouts and breakdowns particularly outside normal working hours.
  • L2 qualification in Food Safety (L3 food Safety desirable)
