Senior Clerk of Works

gap construction are proud to be representing this market leading and world renowned consultancy and building services in their search for a Clerk of Works to join their team in London

Performance Objectives

  • Monitoring and inspecting all works in progress, including those of sub-contractors throughout the execution of the contract for compliance with the specification.
  • Informing the Project Manager and the Principal Contractor in writing of any workmanship and materials found not to comply.
  • Preparing and submitting Clerk of Works reports and task allocation and tracking (using Field view or alternative system)
  • Reporting in line with the requirements of specific scope of services
  • Maintaining a diary of the progress of works, delays, unsatisfactory workmanship or materials, visitors to the site and weather, on a weekly basis.
  • Recording the details of any occurrence or situation thought likely to cause delay or of any delays which do occur in relation to the building contract and inform the Project Manager
  • Providing practical advice, as necessary to the Project Manager in relation to the building contract..
  • Submitting any queries on the drawings and specifications to the Project Manager; draw the attention of the Project Manager to any apparent discrepancies noted on the drawings and between drawings and specifications and measured items in the contract documents.
  • If requested, assist project team evaluate drawings at pre-construction phase.
  • Attending sites and providing the full service as required by the building contract.


Person Specification

  • Able to demonstrate relevant experience in high risk building cladding remediation works or construction works.
  • A chartered member of RICS or ICWCI.
  • If not already chartered, be able to demonstrate relevant experience to become chartered.
  • Proficient use of IT including tablets
  • Experience in using Fieldview software

An excellent opportunity for a distinguished Site manager to join a main contractor at the cutting-edge of quality construction. The initial project will have you overseeing a successful team working on outstanding retail fit out projects.
Due to the nature of the work it will involve working away from home from occasionally, working on exciting projects throughout East Anglia.
Ideal skills and qualifications also include:

  • SMSTS Card
  • Previous Experience is preferred
  • First aid qualified
  • Ambitious and hands-on approach to projects

  • Some experience within high-spec retail projects
  • Trade background is advantageous but not essential

Your Duties will include:

  • Ensuring all health, safety and environmental procedures are always maintained

  • Responsible for the management of subcontractors, communicating with them daily to ensure work is being undertaken to plan and the relevant standards are being achieved.
  • Monitor the use of utilities to ensure costs do not exceed the budget

  • Oversee the safe delivery and execution of work on site

Performance Objectives

  • Meeting with clients to identify project requirements, delivery timelines and costs, advising the client on alternate viability, feasibility studies and support the client in developing the brief and project programme based on needs and requirements.
  • Report regularly both internally and to the client on progress, and cost management.
  • Working with the Quantity Surveyor, provide timely reports to the Finance Business Partner on delivery of margin and ensure costs control measures are adhered to.

  • Oversee the provision of Principal Contractor services to clients, prepare Health and Safety plans in compliance with CDM Regulations and ensure continuous compliance with all aspects of CDM Regulations.
  • Be responsible for ensuring site safety, welfare and access is considered and provided for appropriately on every project. Undertake regular site inspections, recording findings and undertake investigations into causes of concerns and accidents/incidents as required.

  • Monitor and facilitate the provision of any planning consents, building regulations approval and environmental approvals. In particular any pre-commencement conditions including wayleaves and easements.
