  • Coordinating all internal & external testing workload with other team members, according to established methods and reporting results to internal customers
  • Carrying out duties timely as per agreed KPI's.
  • Making sure all tests are arranged in a timely manner, and any deviations from the specification are followed up and recorded.
  • Review existing testing methods. Performing or arranging verification tests to confirm the applicability of the methods.
  • Ensuring equipment is in good, working condition. Calibration and verification are performed according to time schedules. Equipment maintenance contracts are arranged where it is relevant.
  • Ensuring consumables stocks are kept at necessary levels, placing orders when necessary
  • Ensuring Lab Safety to ensure that all necessary risk assessments are in place:
  • Maintaining MSDS or COSHH documents; Ensuring Safety hazards in the laboratory are reported and addressed.
  • Occasional customer site attendance, customer site support.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the quality management system.

Person Specification

  • Minimum A level in chemistry or chemical engineering with honours & vocational training certificate or polytechnic diploma related to building chemistry & materials
  • Minimum 3 years of working in laboratory environment.
  • Ideally, experience in aggregate, and cementitious material testing.
  • Computer Literate
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 is a plus
  • Possibility of evolution of responsibility

Performance Objectives

  • With support manage the NPD process upon receipt of the brief
  • Ensure the NPD Gate Process is followed
  • With support ensure all products achieve the required nutrition, commercial targets & desired shelf life
  • Help support the NPD Team to deliver new and existing product development for Private Label & Brand Partner projects.
  • Hands on Role in the Test Kitchen making the samples; testing & tweaking the recipes to ensure they deliver on taste; visuals & hit the nutritional claims & commercials requirements
  • Technical Intrinsic Testing to ensure the product will achieve its desired shelf life.
  • Understand there are regular feasibility meeting with all the key stake holders e.g., NPD, technical, commercial, operations etc. prior to retailer / brand partner sample submissions
  • Ensure all recipes our loaded correctly on to the System
  • Ensure all the retailer sample / brand partner submissions & PDI Paper Work is completed correctly & is accurate
  • With support ensure the Costings are correct & work commercially for the business
  • Organise & support factory trials with operations, QA and site technical teams at relevant sites. Liaise with all site functions to progress projects.
  • Help ensure the trial process results in all products launching successfully & in-line with the critical path timelines.
  • Help progress all aspects of document control and process relating to project.
  • Ensure correct recipe information is entered onto the retailer / brand partner specification
  • Support the project team member who is representing development internally and at all the relevant external meetings.
  • To work with the Commercial teams and some of our customers to develop ideas and shape projects.
  • Support the distribution of relevant meeting minutes and actions in a timely manner
  • Work with the Head of NPD, Senior Techs & Commercial team to ensure all NPD related paperwork and or samples are processed and available on time and in full as per the requirements of the customer; including bench mark samples etc.
  • Help support the Senior Tech Leading Customer NPD related meetings both on and off site
  • Gain the understanding of the category and customers' ranges, and working with the market team, arrange and carry out frequent benchmarking and review sessions
  • Grow your knowledge of professional technical practices, development and standards
  • Gain a strong understanding of your retailers "Brand Standards / Nutritional Standards" & ingredients relating to specific products and work with suppliers.
  • Deputize for the other Junior Technologists as appropriate & depending on level of experience for the Senior Techs.

Person Specification

  • 2-3 years in FMCG environment
  • Educated to degree or equivalent level in food tech / food science & nutrition
  • Proven track record within NPD
  • Having the ability and resilience to thrive in a pressurised environment, prioritising work load to deliver results on time and in full.
  • Has Experience of Project Management
